How this club began.
|
The Port District Football club was formed in 1979 after an amalgamation of both the Semaphore Central & Exeter Football Clubs.
These two clubs were 2 of the oldest metropolitan football clubs and both played out of Largs Reserve - the current home base of Port District.
Since entering the South Australian Amatuer Football League (SAAFL) in Division 2, the Port District Football Club has gone on to be the most respected and successful on the Le Fevre Peninsula.
The first official PDFC guernsey comprised of a black background with the famous white PDFC emblem on the front. This guernsey was worn until 1993 when the club changed its design to the black and white horizontal stripes. This guernsey design was worn until the end of 2007, and then in 2008 the club reverted back to the original all black guernsey design. In the same year, the club introduced a "clash" guernsey which was simply the colours reverted - an all white background with black PDFC logo on the front.
Over 30 years, the Port District Football Club has never been lower than A3.
It has won 20 senior/colts premierships...
* 1 x Div 1 Premiership (1992)
* 3 x Div 1 Reserve Premiership (1979, 1991 and 1995)
* 3 x Div 2 Premierships (1979, 1998 & 2007)

Largs Reserve
|
Largs Reserve is the spiritual home of the Port District Football Club.
Located on Woolnough Rd at Largs Bay, it is 16 km from the Adelaide CBD and the clubrooms and oval are the major recreational space of the suburb of Largs Bay.
It has been home to the Port District Football Club since it's formation in1979, but before that it was also home to both of the foundation clubs - Semaphore Central (1898) and Exeter Football Clubs (1924).
Both of these club shared the oval on alternate weekends and the clubrooms for after-match presentations & refreshments.
In 1988, Largs Reserve also became the home of the Port District Footballers Cricket Club. It used the main hard wicket pitch, which in 2004 was converted to a full 5 pitch turf wicket maintained by the PAE council.
In 2005, the erection of 6 new floodlights towers were placed around the oval which has meant twilight football and cricket coul be played at Largs Reserve.
The Port Adelaide Enfield Council has just announced a major refurbishment (due for completion by 2009) of the surrounding areas around the oval which should make viewing sport at Largs Reserve just that bit more comfortable.
